Candidates FAQs

Do I need a CV?

You will need a CV as many of our client’s request CVs prior to interview and it’s always a good idea to keep it up to date. Please supply your CV in electronic format.

Will I know who you send my CV to?

As a matter of courtesy, MAT Recruit will always ask your permission before sending a copy of your CV to clients. Only if we feel a vacancy is suitable for you will we forward your CV.

How do you decide which jobs or assignments are suitable for candidates?

During your initial consultation, you will have the opportunity to discuss in detail the type of job or assignment you are looking for and the type of organisation you would prefer to work in. Our Consultants visit our clients’ offices to see first hand the office environment. By getting to know as much about our candidates and clients as possible, we are able to make more accurate ‘matches’ and recommendations.

How long will it be before you tell me about interviews or assignments?

Your Consultant will discuss any suitable vacancies or assignments with you when you register, otherwise we will be in regular contact and keep you informed of any new vacancies and assignments.

What happens if you don’t have any positions available?

Your Consultant will start actively searching for appropriate opportunities and will contact you as soon as anything suitable becomes available.

Will you help me prepare for interviews?

Your MAT Recruit Consultant will brief you thoroughly prior to any interviews. We will give you as much information about the position, the responsibilities, the company, department and dress code as well as details of the salary offered and any benefits. MAT Recruit also provide their candidates with Tips and Techniques to help them prepare for interviews. We also contact both our candidates and clients following an interview to get valuable feedback from both perspectives.

What if I don’t like the sound of a job when I’ve had an interview?

There is no pressure for you to accept any job that may be offered through MAT Recruit. An interview is a two way process allowing both the interviewer and interviewee the opportunity to get to know each other. MAT Recruit will contact you following the interview to see how it went and give you feedback from the client. If you decide a position isn’t right for you, or you have any queries or concerns, then we can advise on the most appropriate course of action. Our main concern is to provide the right solution for everyone.

What type of companies use MAT Recruit?

MAT Recruit assists thousands of businesses with their permanent and short-term recruitment. Our portfolio of clients range from small businesses, to medium-sized companies and multi-national organisations. We have built strong and long-lasting business partnerships with many of our clients.

What documents do I need to bring with me when I register?

Please bring an up-to-date CV, any references from previous employers and a P45 if you are registering for assignment work. We also require proof of your identification from everyone that registers so please bring along a valid passport or birth certificate together with your NI documentation if you are British, or if you are an EU national, we will accept your European ID card in place of a passport. Candidates of other nationalities will need to provide a valid visa in addition to the passport.

Can I choose the type of company to work with?

Before sending you on an assignment, your Consultant will brief you about the company and department as well as the duties involved. You can then make the decision of whether to accept a booking or not.

When and how do I get paid?

One of the advantages of working on short term assignments is that you are paid weekly. With MAT Recruit, pay day is on Friday (except on Bank Holidays) and you have the option of being paid either directly into your bank or building society account or by cheque. Your Tax and National Insurance will be deducted at source. However, in order for us to administer the correct tax coding, you will need to be issued with either a P45, P46 or P38 before you start your first assignment. If you are from overseas, you must provide a working visa (if applicable) and your passport. You will receive a pay slip detailing your earnings and any deductions.
